032c Workshop / Joerg Koch presents “Makak,” a new jewelery collection by Prim by Michelle Elie. The unique hand-made pieces, inspired by Claude Lévi-Strauss’ anthropological travel memoir Tristes Tropiques, pre-colonial mythologies and Michelle Elie’s own Haitian roots, represent a material fusion (silver, gold, wood, bone, leather and plastic), as well as a cultural one.
The sculptural accessories are presented by marionettes. Hand-painted by Martin Margiela in the early 1980s, they hang before a backdrop inspired by Yves Klein’s International Blue and Florian Baudrexel’s textured reliefs.

For 2Spoons the designer Tino Seubert created a collection of vases. He was inspired by the socialist GDR architecture of the exhibition venue, the Henselmann-Tower that marks the gateway to Karl-Marx-Allee. He composes geometric forms using terrazzo and mirrored glass to create elaborate objects. Their name Narcissus refers to the partly reflective and partly transparent surface of the glass. The viewer is able to look inside the vases, where the flowers are reflected and multiplied many times.

The terrazzo base of the vases is produced on site at the Gedächtniskirche by Gizzi & Westphal, who are currently working on the renovation of the iconic anti-war memorial. The glass part is made out of Mirona, a mineral glass which is produced by the traditional German company Schott.

The vases will be displayed with flower arrangements by star florist Mark Colle, from Antwerp, who has already worked for Dries Van Noten and Raf Simons. His spectacular floral creations for Raf Simons’ recent Haute Couture show for Dior were internationally celebrated.

The Narcissus Vases are joined by two works from Tino Seubert‘s most famous project Forming History. Photographs of significant historic moments, in which furniture played a role, are the starting point of these furniture designs. On show are the Josephine Baker Stool, based on a photo of the revolutionary burlesque dancer, as well as the Nobel Peace Prize Chair, inspired by Liu Xiaobo’s empty chair at the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony in Oslo.

Tino Seubert was born in 1986 in Forchheim near Nuremberg and studied design in Bolzano and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. The product and concept designer bridges different genres, including design, photography, art, and architecture. His work often resonates with historical references to places and materials.

Casa Talìa is part of the “Slow Living” movement, which focuses on slowing down one’s daily life. This small and charming hotel lies in the former Jewish quarter of the baroque town Modica, which was declared a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2002. The building complex was carefully renovated by an architect couple from Milan using mainly traditional Sicilian materials combined with modern technologies. The nine rooms are placed in various small houses; each of them has an idyllic garden or a terrace with spectacular views on Modica alta. The delicious breakfast is served under the olive and pomegranate trees looking onto the slightly crumbling facades of the baroque houses and churches.

Legendary film director Francis Ford Coppola purchased the Palazzo Margherita in 2004 to transform it into a small, luxurious hotel. The palazzo was built in 1892 by the Margherita family in Bernalda, the birthplace of Agostino Coppola, Francis Ford Coppola’s grandfather, who left Italy in 1904. The hotel is located on the main road of Bernalda, a small innocent town in the still undiscovered region of Basilicata in southern Italy. It has only nine rooms and suites, which were designed by famous French interior designer Jacques Grange. Before the hotel opened in March 2012, Francis’ daughter Sofia Coppola celebrated her wedding here in August 2011. She also brought in Jacques Grange to supervise the renovation and they developed a close cooperation on this family project. As one of the most stylish women in the world, she had a lot of input, such as the beautiful, simple flower decorations throughout the palazzo and the selection of products by Santa Maria Novella. She spent her wedding night in Suite Four, where you will especially find her feminine touch.
